Come work with us!

We are seeking a postgraduate fellow to join the laboratory of Dr. Kaelyn Sumigray (sumigraylab.org)  in the Department of Genetics. The Sumigray lab aims to understand how stem cell niches form and the role niche architecture plays on stem cell behavior, using the mammalian small intestine as a model. Candidates will work closely with the PI, lab manager and graduate students to study the role cell-cell interactions play in intestinal development and in pre-cancerous conditions. This is a great opportunity for those looking for more research experience before applying to graduate or medical school.

 Training

Through this opportunity, candidates will gain experience in mouse colony management, microscopy, and 3D organoid culture. The postgraduate researcher will work closely with Sumigray lab members to gain experience in the design, execution and analysis of experiments. The candidate is expected to become an integral lab member, participating in weekly lab meetings and attending seminars.

 Mentoring

The candidate will be directly mentored by Dr. Sumigray, both through informal interactions in the lab and regularly scheduled one-on-one meetings. The candidate will be given career development opportunities that are tailored to their long-term goals, including scientific writing and presentation opportunities. The ultimate goal is to create a rewarding and engaging experience to foster scientific, professional and educational advancement.

 Education Requirements

The ideal candidate should be motivated, hard-working and engaging with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in biology or a related field. Prior research experience in mouse models, organoid culture, molecular biology, or microscopy is highly desirable.

Interested candidates should send a (1) CV, (2) a cover letter describing motivation regarding this opportunity, research interests and experience, and (3) names and contact information for  three references to Kaelyn.sumigray@yale.edu.

The Sumigray lab is always looking for passionate researchers at all levels to work on projects at the interface of cell biology, morphogenesis and stem cell biology.

Please submit i) a cover letter with a brief description of your research experience and motivations for joining the lab and ii) CV to Dr. Kaelyn Sumigray (kaelyn.sumigray@yale.edu).
